When you run an SQL query the database uses a number of techniques in order to optimise your query and return the results as quickly as possible. In this article we will run some experiments to get a better understanding of how to improve performance.

In just a couple of minutes we have seeded our table with a million rows.

The database had to read through every row of our table in order to return the data.
