What I am suggesting is that we can disable PHP's runtime type checks if we want to, and deal with the consequences ourselves.
I'd love for internals to further explore the static analysis side of PHP: it's more than just a userland addon to the language, and will only continue to grow tighter to PHP in the future.
I hope Sara's assessment is right in that this is the form PHP is evolving to, but unfortunately it'll take a few more years to get there.
