July 2020 - Get, Set ... STOP!This month we're holding another virtual meetup, this time with a talk on the potential anti-patterns, getters and setters, in PHP.
View the meetup here: https://youtu.be/1paYDq2OoS4
Speaker:
Our speaker, Zvonimir Spajić, is a motivated software developer working with madewithlove. He is highly interested in software architecture and ‘getting it right’.
The Talk: Get, Set ... STOP!
Wikipedia defines Cargo cult programming as "Ritual inclusion of code or program structures that serve no real purpose". One behaviour, deeply embedded into the hearts and minds of many software developers is the creation of getters and setter on entities. It' so widespread that IDEs have tools to do it automatically. Why do we do it? Does it serve some purpose or is it just a cargo cult programming ritual?
If you're interested in exploring design and building better systems, then this is the talk for you.
This meetup will consist of a 50 minute talk followed by a Q&A session.
I want to talk:
Excellent. If you'd like to speak at one of our future events please drop us a message here on meetup or send a tweet/DM to us (the organisers) on Twitter.
